Our Story.

Born from a friendship that started on a student film set long ago, SLAQR Studios is led by Michelle Simunovic and Julia Grimm, two producers with complimentary skillsets. The two came together professionally in 2019 to EP and produce 5 seasons of FXX’s CAKE, and haven’t parted ways since.

SLAQR Studios is an evolution of our sister company, SLAQR Inc, an acclaimed creative agency founded by Monina Verano in 2010. Through Studios, we expand on a legacy of breaking formulas, provoking emotion, and driving culture by now bringing these same values to our work with artists and brands.

Our Background.

  • Julia Grimm

    Owner & Producer

    Julia spent the better part of the decade producing a wide array of short form content, including branded work for partners like Billboard, Netflix, Amazon, Snap, Super Deluxe, United Airlines, and more. Outside of the branded space, she’s produced festival-winning short films, music videos, live events, and documentaries, including a 2020 NYTimes Op-Doc. After joining SLAQR Inc to produce CAKE, she continued on as Head of Production to logistically and creatively lead the team in the promo, trailer and branding space. Her work across multiple formats has allowed her to organically grow a network of all types of dreamers and doers, and she prioritizes communication and getting to the heart of things - ideally over a plate of pasta.

  • Michelle Simunovic

    Owner & Producer

    Michelle has over a decade of experience crafting stories and shaping brand identity for global media partners like FX, Hulu, Amazon and more. Working as a Creative Producer, Director, and then Head of Creative at sister company SLAQR Inc, Michelle led teams in producing original shoot concepts, trailers, and promos for major show launches and branding campaigns. She has worked on Hulu’s 1619, FX Atlanta, FX Pose, Amazon’s Mrs. Maisel, Amazon’s Homecoming, Amazon’s I Love Dick, Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle and much more.
